Welcome to the Department of Economics at Salahaddin University-Erbil. As the head of the department, I take pride in the achievements and ongoing development of our academic community.
Professor Dr. Baktyar Sabir Mohammed is an accomplished academic and administrator specializing in Petroleum & Financial Economy. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Mosul in 2008, following a Master's in Economy from Salahaddin University-Erbil in 2003, and a foundational Bachelor's degree from Salahaddin University's College of Economics and Administration in 1999.
His extensive career is marked by significant leadership roles, including a two-year tenure as Head of the Department of Economics at Salahaddin University and a five-year term as Dean of the Technical Institute, Pruderach. Currently, He serves as the Assistant Dean for the Faculty of Management and Economics at Salahaddin University, a testament to His administrative acumen.
His doctoral research delved into "The Relationship between Oil Market Fluctuation and Investment in Financial Markets to GCC," analyzing crucial aspects of oil and financial markets and their interplay. This specialized knowledge complements a broad teaching portfolio encompassing Economic Resources, Water Economics, Agricultural Economy, Public Finance, Investment Management, Econometrics, and Project Evaluation.
Beyond academia, He is a prolific researcher and commentator on economic issues in Kurdistan, with numerous articles in the Economists' Syndicate Magazine-Erbil and other publications. He has contributed to vital studies, including one on poverty in Aqre Castle, and actively participated in economic development initiatives, notably as a lecturer for Small Projects and general economic courses. His practical experience extends to working with ANKA Company for agricultural development in Iraq, and he is a respected voice in academic circles, regularly evaluating scientific research and participating in Master's thesis discussions.

Upon successful completion of the Economics program, graduates should be able to:

Admissions
The Department of Economics offers two types of study options for prospective students, ensuring accessibility and flexibility based on individual circumstances:
- Zankoline (government-funded) Study
- Description: This option provides free tuition for students who meet the eligibility criteria and are accepted through the general centralized admission system, known as "Zancoline."
- Eligibility:
- Applicants must meet the academic requirements of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
- Selection is competitive and based on high school scores, particularly in scientific subjects.
- Benefits:
- Exemption from tuition fees.
- Access to complete university services and facilities.
- Parallel Study (Self-Funded)
- Description: This option allows students who do not secure a Zankoline seat to pursue their studies by paying a tuition fee.
- Tuition Fee: 1,100,000 IQD per year.
- Eligibility:
- Students must meet the minimum academic requirements for admission to the Biology program.
- This option provides additional opportunities for students to catch up on the Zankoline criteria.
- Benefits:
- Access to the same high-quality education, resources, and facilities as Zancoline students.
