The department was established after the college was founded in 1976. The department has contributed significantly to the training of skilled statisticians, data analysts, and information management experts, who have contributed to the economic, administrative, and social development of the country.
In a data-driven world, the department equips students with the theoretical and practical tools needed for effective data collection, analysis, and interpretation, enabling evidence-based decision-making in both public and private sectors. Graduates gain not only technical expertise but also critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic skills applicable to fields such as business, finance, public policy, and economic planning.
As digital transformation accelerates, the demand for accurate data analysis and efficient information systems continues to grow across disciplines. The department plays a vital role in preparing professionals to meet these challenges.
In historically under-resourced regions like Kurdistan, where scientific advancement was once limited, new opportunities now exist to cultivate technical expertise. The department is committed to developing a new generation of professionals who can support regional and national progress through applied statistics and informatics.
