A symposium on the 8th UN Goal 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth was held


February 19, 2025, under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Bakhtiar Saber Mohammed, Supervisor of the College of Administration and Economics a symposium on the 8th UN Goal 8, decent work, and economic growth was managed, the event was organized in coordination with the College Ranking Committee and the Career Development Center. The symposium commenced with a welcoming speech and the opening remarks delivered by the supervisor of the college. Following this, Lect. Hussein Ahmad Mustafa, Director of the Career Development Center, presented an insightful overview of SDG 8, focusing on the critical issues surrounding sustainable economic growth. Throughout the symposium, Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilshad Mahmoud Saleh conducted a seminar that highlighted the role of academic engagement and publications in promoting decent work and economic growth.
Two expert-led panels followed the seminar. The first panel, titled Measuring Progress in Decent Work, Economic Growth, Employment Practices, and Rights in the Workplace, featured insightful contributions from Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayub Anwar Samaqayi, an expert in Sustainable Development; Dr. Jawan Saadullah Rashid, Head of the Department of Administration; and Lect. Shadan Sabah Ahmad, Lecturer in the Department of Administration. The panel was moderated by Assist. Lect. Ala Salah Asad. The discussion was enriched by the thoughtful questions and comments from the audience, which further clarified the topics under discussion.
The second panel focused on Equality in Pay and Employee Welfare, with presentations from Prof. Nasrat Khoshnaw, Assist. Prof. Dr. Jarjis Mustafa Khadr, Head of Scientific Affairs of the College, and Lect. Halz Ali Hussein, Lecturer in the Department of Administration. The panel was moderated by Assist. Lect. Mohammed Jabbar Hamad Ali, a member of the Career Development Committee. In this session, the discussion revolved around employee compensation, best practices in graduate job placement, and the analysis of secure employment contracts in various industries. This symposium provided valuable insights into the ongoing efforts and challenges associated with achieving SDG 8 while fostering a collaborative environment for academia, industry professionals, and students to engage in meaningful discussions on economic development and workplace equality.
